Announcing the 14th Annual SPSP Sexuality Preconference!
September 9, 2026 by Emily Mendelson
We are thrilled to announce that the fourteenth annual SPSP Sexuality Pre-Conference will take place in Philadelphia on Thursday, February 11, 2027! We hope you will join us for this exciting event and invite you to submit your latest research to the program!
What does sexual freedom mean in today’s world, and who has access to it? The theme of the 14th annual SPSP Sexuality Pre-Conference is “Sexual Liberty.” Inspired by Philadelphia’s historical association with liberation and independence, this event invites scholars to explore the many ways that sexuality intersects with autonomy, agency, rights, and identity. Presentations may examine the social, cultural, political, psychological, and relational forces that shape sexual freedom, as well as the barriers that constrain it. Sample topics to be addressed include sexual and reproductive autonomy, gender and sexual diversity, sexual well-being, stigma and discrimination, consent, sexual ethics, relationship structures, public policy, and the changing meanings of freedom in intimate life.
As is the case with previous years, attendees are invited to submit proposals for individual talks, data blitzes, and posters. Submissions are welcome from scholars at all career stages, using any relevant methodology, and covering any topic within sex research. Whether you study desire, identity, relationships, health, technology, or something else, we want to hear from you. We pride ourselves on featuring scholars at many stages of their careers who come from a wide variety of disciplines.
To learn more about this event, including information on registering and/or submitting a proposal for the data blitz, poster, or symposium talk, please visit this site. Submissions are due by end of day on October 8, 2026.
If you’re already planning to attend SPSP, this is a great way to add some sex research to your program. And if you’re a sex educator, researcher, or therapist who doesn’t normally attend SPSP, this pre-conference is a great excuse to come check it out!
Although you do not need to register for the main SPSP conference in order to attend our pre-conference, we encourage you to attend both because your pre-conference attendance entitles you to a discount on registration for the main conference.
Hope to see you in Philadelphia this February for a fantastic day of cutting-edge sex science!
