Podcasts on the Science of Sex to Get You Through the Lockdown

April 29, 2020 by Justin Lehmiller

During this time of lockdowns and quarantines, I know that many of you are looking for ways to pass the time, so allow me to suggest some entertaining and educational podcasts on the science of sex to help!

· Two Girls One Mic: What happens when an anthropologist, a physicist, and a social psychologist get together to talk about sex? You’ll find out in this show! I recently recorded an episode with these gals—and it’s one of my personal favorites. We talk about how a former Catholic school boy (me!) ended up becoming a sex researcher, as well as some of the most fascinating things I learned in studying people’s sexual fantasies. We cover a lot of ground, from cuckolding to necrophilia to fantasies about famous politicians. Check it out here.

· Sex and Psychology: Did you know that I have my own podcast? I’ve used some of my time in lockdown to record new episodes and also get them up on Apple. Recent episodes focus on the impact of the COVID-19 lockdowns on people’s intimate lives, from the unique issues sex therapists are seeing in their practices right now to the ways in which people are leveraging sextech to combat loneliness and boredom. Catch up on all of the episodes on the podcast section of my site or listen over on Apple.

· What We Do: This podcast is unlike any other I’ve participated in—and even if you’ve already listened to some of my other podcasts about my book Tell Me What You Want, this one is still well worth checking out! The episode I did comes complete with an opera singer who belts out the top sex fantasies at various points, as well as some seriously fun sound effects (including a clip from the Willy Wonka movie—you’ll just have to listen to see how that fits into a discussion about sex fantasies!). We go well beyond just talking about sexual fantasies in this podcast, though—we also discuss what research has taught us about online dating, infidelity, pornography, dick pics and more. To listen, stream the November 7, 2019 episode on this page.

· Sex With Strangers: This is another one of my favorites, and it was recorded at my dining room table, so it has a little more intimate feel. I chatted with host Chris Sowa about sexual fantasies, whether you can think yourself to orgasm, why sex research is so important, and much more. It’s another fun, wide-ranging conversation about all things sex, and you can listen right here.

In need of more sex-related distraction, entertainment, or education? Check out my list of recommended books here.

Happy listening!
