February 6, 2015 by Justin Lehmiller

For your viewing (and learning) pleasure this Valentine’s Day weekend, I’ve put together a playlist of five of my favorite videos on the science of love and attraction. These videos span a range of topics, including what actually goes on inside our brains when we experience love and heartbreak, why we become attracted to certain people, what you can do to improve your own relationship, and much more. Enjoy!

1.) The Science of Love – ASAP Science – Here’s a brief, but fascinating look at the neurobiology behind the experience of love.

2.) The Science of Attraction – Dawn Maslar – Why are we attracted to some people but not others? Here’s a revealing look at what some of the research has to say.

3.) Is It Lust or Love? – Terri Orbuch – What’s the difference between lust and love? Orbuch explains how you can tell them apart and describes what you can do to recreate lust in a long-term, loving relationship.

4.) The Marriage Hack – Eli Finkel – What can you do to keep your relationship healthy and strong over time? A simple intervention that takes only 21 minutes per year could potentially alter the trajectory of your relationship for the better.

5.) The Science of Heartbreak – ASAP Science – Why is the end of a relationship so painful? Here’s a look at the physical and psychological effects of a broken heart.
